How We Test
Short answer: we do not currently install or run the programs listed on dentsoftpro.com on our own machines. The information on each program page is verified against the developer’s official sources, not against a hands-on test. That is why our pages say “Not tested yet” instead of “Tested”. This page explains what that verification covers, what it does not cover, and what would change if we start hands-on testing.
What “verified against official sources” means
For every program in the catalogue the editorial team checks the following against the developer’s website, documentation, release notes or repository, on the date shown as “Last verified” on the page:
- the program name and the developer or project behind it;
- the current stable version and its release date, as published by the developer;
- the licence, and what the free edition, trial, demo or free viewer actually includes;
- supported operating systems and the published system requirements;
- the installer size, where the developer publishes it;
- the official product page we link to as the source.
If one of these cannot be confirmed from an official source, it is left out or marked “Not verified” rather than estimated.
What we do not do
- We do not run performance benchmarks, stability tests or security audits.
- We do not rate programs, award stars or publish scores.
- We do not measure anything on our own hardware. Any sentence about how a program behaves in use is taken from the vendor’s documentation and attributed to it.
For imaging software we do not assess image quality, measurement accuracy or diagnostic performance. Where a developer states that a viewer is not intended for diagnostic use, we repeat that statement on the program page.
Comparisons and guides
Comparison articles are built from documented features, licence terms and system requirements, not from measured results. Where a table compares programs, the values come from each vendor’s documentation as of the date on the article. A guide that describes an installation or configuration follows the developer’s official instructions and links to them.
Labels you will see
- Not tested yet — the page is based on official sources only; no hands-on test has been made.
- Last verified — the date on which the facts on the page were last checked at the source.
- Sources — the official pages the facts were taken from.
- Shareware (conditionally free) — a paid product with a free tier, trial, demo or viewer; the page says which.
If we start hands-on testing
Should the editorial team begin testing programs on a dedicated machine, this page will be updated to describe the environment (hardware, operating system and versions), and only the entries that were actually tested will be labelled as such. Until then, no page on this site claims a hands-on test, and a “Tested” label should be read as an error that you are welcome to report.
How you can help
If a version, licence or requirement on a page no longer matches the developer’s site, tell us through the Contacts page. Our Corrections Policy describes what happens next, and the Editorial Policy explains how programs are chosen in the first place.
