Dentally is cloud-based dental practice management software for practices in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, covering appointments, charting, treatment plans, patient communication, payments, reporting and imaging in a web browser. For UK practices the main draw is that Dentally software is integrated with the NHS in England, Wales and Scotland and with HSC in Northern Ireland; for Canadian offices it handles CDAnet claims.

Dentally is commercial software from Henry Schein One, with no free version. You can book a demo, and new customers get a Sandbox practice to train in before go-live, so we list it as shareware (conditionally free). It began in the UK in 2013 and was acquired by Henry Schein One in 2020. Its regional sites cover the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; there is no US edition.

Train the team in the Sandbox

1. During onboarding, Dentally supplies Sandbox login details and a separate URL.
2. Staff practise booking, charting and taking payments in a fake practice with test patients and appointments.
3. The Sandbox closes when the practice goes live, so schedule training in the first months.

Connect your existing X-ray software

1. Install the Dentally Software Bridge extension in Chrome.
2. Install the Imaging Bridge application on each 64-bit Windows or Mac computer that needs images. On Windows, Chrome must run as administrator for the bridge to work.
3. Open a patient in Dentally and launch their images in your imaging program. Supported programs include Romexis, Sidexis, Dexis, DTX Studio, CliniView, Carestream, Vixwin, EZDent-i, Dolphin Imaging, Medit and 3Shape Trios, among others. For Schick/CDR, the CDR program must already be open.

Move from your old system

Dentally migrates data from your current software: an account is set up first, data is reviewed with an account manager, and the final migration runs the day before go-live. Patient records, practitioners, appointments and treatment histories can usually be moved, depending on the source system.

Install and first run

• Nothing to install for the main program: Dentally runs in the browser. Use the latest Google Chrome.
• Computers: recent Windows or macOS, Intel Core i3 or equivalent, 8 GB RAM, 1920 x 1080 display (21.5-inch). An operating system or browser up to a year older than current will still work.
• Internet: 15 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload or better. Keep a backup, such as a mobile hotspot or 4G router, for outages; the minimum backup speed is 4 Mbps.
• Imaging Bridge: 64-bit systems only; a legacy bridge exists for older operating systems.
• Dentally Vision: Windows 10 or later or macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, a stable connection of about 24 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up for one computer, and a graphics card with 2–4 GB of video memory for 3D images.
• Site check: Dentally reviews your hardware and operating systems before go-live.

Limitations

• No free version and no open self-service trial; the Sandbox is for new customers during onboarding.
• No US edition; regional sites cover the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
• Depends on the internet; a backup connection is strongly advised.
• Chrome is the only browser named in the requirements.
• No public version numbers or release notes outside the help centre and customer channels.

Dentally vs alternatives

Dentally’s closest peers on our site are other commercial practice systems. Curve Dental and Denticon are also browser-based, but they serve North America, so neither handles NHS claims. In Canada, Dentally competes with ClearDent, which also offers CDAnet claims and adds on-premises and hybrid options.
