BioDigital Human is a cloud-based 3D model of the human body from BioDigital, Inc. (New York). What it does
- 3D human anatomy – a virtual body with more than 8,000 individually selectable structures, available in eight languages.
- Anatomy & Physiology library – more than 500 interactive models, tours and quizzes at gross, tissue, cellular and molecular levels; this is the part included in the free plan.
- Conditions and treatments – more than 850 simulated conditions and procedures (such as the ENT procedures added in January 2026); on individual accounts these are visible but locked since May 2026.
- Human Studio – authoring tools to customise models, build your own tours and create quizzes, included on the free plan.
- My Library – save customised models; the free plan holds up to 5.
- Sharing and embedding – School and Business plans can publish models outside the platform, including in learning management systems; select Business plans include developer toolkits.
How dental teams use it
Identify the permanent teeth in 3D
- Sign in on the web or in the app and open a skeletal model from the library available on your plan.
- Search for “maxillary teeth” or “mandibular teeth” and isolate the arch.
- Click each tooth – from the central incisor to the third molar – to see its name, then hide neighbouring structures to view it from all sides.
Build a revision quiz for a small group
- Customise a head and neck model in Human Studio: hide what you do not need and add labels.
- Create a quiz on the structures, save it to My Library and run it in class from one screen.
- Remember that each View, View Tour or Take Quiz click counts as a model view on the free plan.
Patient education in a practice
BioDigital positions Business plans for small clinics and healthcare practices, for example to show 3D models to patients or embed them on a website. This needs a paid plan; the free Personal plan cannot publish or embed models.
Install and first run
- Web: nothing to install. Open BioDigital Human in a current desktop browser with WebGL enabled and create a free account.
- iPhone and iPad: install “BioDigital – 3D Human Anatomy” from the App Store (iOS 15.6 or later).
- Android: install the BioDigital app from Google Play and sign in with the same account.
- Plan your 10 monthly model views: open a model once and explore it fully instead of reopening it.
- Former Personal Plus subscribers moved to the free plan after their term ended; after the grace period only the five most recently updated models are kept, so decide in advance which models to keep.
- For a school or business trial, BioDigital now runs guided trials instead of instant self-service trials.
Limitations
- The free plan is capped at 10 model views a month and 5 saved models.
- Since 1 May 2026, individual accounts get only the Anatomy & Physiology library; conditions, procedures and treatments need a School or Business plan, and the paid individual plan has been retired.
- No dental-specific content set, no DICOM or CBCT import, and no clinical planning.
- Needs an internet connection; it is a cloud platform.
- Publishing, LMS embedding and developer APIs are not available to individuals.
BioDigital Human vs alternatives
Complete Anatomy and Visible Body are paid apps with deeper study tools; Visible Body sells a dedicated 3D Dental Anatomy add-on. Zygote Body has a free ad-supported level in the browser without a monthly view limit, but with fewer tools. e-Anatomy is better for learning dental anatomy on CT, MRI and illustrations, with free teeth and TMJ modules. The Open Anatomy Project is free and CT-based, but has no dental atlas.

Is there a BioDigital Human download for PC?
There is no Windows or Mac desktop program; on a computer you use the web version in a browser. The downloadable apps are for iOS and Android.
What happened to BioDigital Personal Plus?
BioDigital retired Personal Plus and other individual premium plans on 1 May 2026. Individuals now use the free Personal plan; organisations use School or Business plans.
Does BioDigital Human show individual teeth?
Yes. The maxillary and mandibular teeth are separate structures, from the central incisor to the third molar, listed under the skull in the skeletal system (for example, Skull > Viscerocranium > Upper jaw > Maxillary teeth).
BioDigital Human vs Visible Body: which is better?
